Virgin and sunny peaks, snowy slopes, majestic mounts and attractive gorges—all these words are written about stone giant Terskey Ala-Too Range. Proudly rising, it has been attracting travelers from all over the world to its foothills for many years. This mountain range is rear visited area of the Northern Tien Shan, and that is why it is very attractive place for pioneers.

If you want to become a discoverer, to enjoy amazing mountain scenery and natural phenomena, and also to improve your skills of the ski touring, we would be happy to arrange skiing for you in the area of this mountain range.

The most popular area among skiers and mountaineers is the Northern part of Terskey Ala-Too, such gorges as Karakol, Juuku, Ak-Suu and neighbouring. This area is more explored and accessible. There are a lot of routes and objects for people who practice various sports, including ski tour.

Scheme of program

1st Day. Bishkek – Karakol town

Arrival to the airport of Kyrgyz capital by morning flight. Our company representative will meet you here. Next stage is long transfer to Karakol town, located near the gorge with the same name. Time of driving is about 7-8 hours, the distance is almost about 400 km. You will stay and have a rest in Guest House, where you can check your equipment and later walk around the town or order transfer to famous ski base for some skiing (should be booked preliminary).

Attention! Meal on this day is not including in the base price.

2nd Day. Karakol – Ak-Suu village

As soon as you enjoy your breakfast in the guest house, we will arrange your transfer to Ak-Suu village by minibus. Transfer from Ak-Suu village to yurt camp is possible by snowmobiles or horses (horses will be arranged in case the snow cover in the village is not appropriate for snowmobiles). Snowmobiles will take you to the Yurt camp, which is located in the gorge at the altitude of about 2700 meters. Yurt is traditional dwelling for Kyrgyz people, sauna and unique national cuisine will be arranged for you in the camp. Full board and satellite connection will be provided. The camp is proper and well prepared for comfortable accommodation.

After some rest in yurts you will have a lunch and can make acclimatization walking tours to the nearest slopes. Ski tour routes for each days can be planned during the lovely dinner.

3rd -8th Days. Ski touring, exploration of new routes

Important! All participants choose ski routes by themselves, according to the level of physical training and previous experience, as well as current weather conditions. In addition, all team members should use their own ski outfit during the program.

9th Day. Camp – Bishkek

After breakfast you will travel by pre-arranged snowmobiles to Ak-Suu village. Further transfer will be done by minibus along the new adapted highway; vehicles will deliver the team to Bishkek.

Rest in the guest house in Bishkek after a long transfer. Free time to explore Kyrgyz capital and have dinner of local cuisine in the restaurant.

10th Day. Way to home

After breakfast, you will have the transfer to the airport, the check in and flight to home.

What about to get a taste of the purest mountain air, to touch the real virgin snow, to travel along the Great Silk Road and check your ski skills? We offer you to visit places where all your dreams will come true.

The first destination is Suusamyr valley. Gorgeous peace of mountain peaks, predictable weather conditions, historical value and relatively short distance from the capital of Kyrgyzstan makes this place one of the most popular between tourists and extreme sportsmen. The ski base operates here. It equipped with all that you may need for rest and comfortable stay when you are not skiing. A lot of itineraries have been explored in the valley, as well as routes for ski touring.

As soon as you enjoy the beauty of the Great Silk Road pearl Suusamyr valley, we will be happy to arrange your transfer to picturesque Arslanbob. It is located 175 km far from the Osh city. Arslanbob health resort is situated at the foot of Babash-Ata Range; it becomes more and more popular among the tourists. There are several reasons for the growing popularity of this place: unique nature, relic nuts’ forests, dizzy views and new routes make this area an ideal place for free ride and ski touring.

Scheme of program

This program can be interesting for both professional skier, and those who just discovered ski touring. The program duration is 10 days and it includes the following stages:

1st Day. Bishkek – Suusamyr

We will meet you at the airport in the capital of Kyrgyzstan upon arrival by morning flight. It is planned three-hour transfer by pre-arranged transport to the Suusamyr ski base then. Comfortable rooms, full board, warm sauna and other options will be provided for your comfortable staying at the ski base. You will enjoy magnificent views and feel part of Kyrgyz unique nature during the trip to ski base. Acclimatization skiing from the nearest slopes can be arranged just after check-in, some rest and lunch. As soon as you come back to the cozy atmosphere of the ski base, you will taste a delicious dinner, which includes dishes of national cuisine.

2nd-3rd Days. Ski touring, exploration of new routes

This time is for gaining experience, new routes and slopes exploring, acquaintance with the territories and skitouring skills improvement. Accommodation will be arranged in Suusamyr ski base.

Note: Participants choose routes for skiing by themselves, according to the group physical training, experience and actual weather conditions.

4th Day. Suusamyr valley – Arslanbob area

We will arrange for you quite long transfer to the picturesque resort area, surrounded by walnut and fruit trees – Arslanbob village. It takes about 8 hours. The total distance is 430 kilometers. The road is mainly mountainous.

Arslanbob is famous with its curative mud, climate therapy, and just as a good place for rest. According to the legend, Alexander the Great brought healing nuts from Arslanbob to Greece; nuts are known nowadays as “walnuts”.

Accommodation on this day will be arranged in guest house, which offers all necessary services for comfort and full board.

5th-8th Days. Ski tour, exploration of new routes

The period of ski touring to new slopes, planned preliminary. Accommodation will be arranged in the same guest house.

As option you can order two-days ski trip to mountain area and pre-book accommodation in a mountain hut within the framework of the program. Ski equipment and meals will be delivered by horses. Extra service should be paid additionally.

9th Day. Arslanbob – Osh city

You will early wake up this morning and have a delicious breakfast. Further we will arrange transfer to Osh city for you by a comfortable transport along the modern mountain highway. The trip will take about 3 hours. The distance from the village to the city is 135 kilometers. You may have some rest upon arrival and later enjoy with exploring of local sites and choose something exotic from the menu of local cuisine in town restaurants.

10th Day. Way home

You will have breakfast in the guest house on this day, further quick airport transfer and check-in for a flight that will deliver you and your pleasant impressions to your home country.

Suusamyr valley

Picturesque Suusamyr valley stretches between three ranges of the Northern Tien Shan: Kyrgyz Range, Suusamyr-Too Range and Jumgal-Too Range. It is located close to the capital of Kyrgyzstan, only about 150 kilometers far from Bishkek. It was very important part of the Great Silk Road in ancient time, and it is one of the main attractions of the Republic nowadays; it is a Mecca for fans of extreme sports. Here are several reasons: the unique combination and the variety of the peaks and slopes location, extreme altitude variations (about 1200m) and also relatively stable weather conditions during the most part of the year. And of course, we should note the incredible landscapes of the valley: swift rivers are in harmony with the majestic mountain peaks, and the snow (which is up to 2 and half meters in winter time), illuminated by the sun takes a unique color.

Ski base is located here. Tourists and ski mountaineers have already explored a lot of routes in this area.

Terskey Ala-Too Range

This mountain range is one of rear visited areas of the Tien Shan, and that is why a lot of climbers and fans of other types of sport were interested to visit it. The Range stretches along the southern shore of the pearl of Kyrgyzstan – Issyk-Kul Lake and further to the neighboring China. The most attractive part for visit is the Northern side of the Range, where such gorges as Karakol, Kyzyl-Suu, Juuku, Chon Kyzyl-Suu, Jety – Oguz are situated, as well as Ak-Suu Gorge which covers tens of kilometers. These gorges are well explored by climbers and skiers, while others are either completely virgin or visited just a few times.

Scheme of program

1st Day. Bishkek.

Arrival to Bishkek early in the morning. Three-hour transfer to the Suusamyr valley (located at a distance of 160 kilometers from Bishkek) will be arranged for you after breakfast at the local café or restaurant. You will stay this night in cozy rooms of the ski resort. Ski resort is very convenient for accommodation and leisure time. There are such fun places here as tennis court, cinema, hot sauna and other elements for comfortable stay. Furthermore, you will have delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Acclimatization ascents and ski touring to the nearest slopes can be also arranged on this day.

Note! Participants should have their personal ski outfit, which is recommended to check preliminary.

2nd-3rd Days. Ski tour, exploration of new routes

You can spend few days for ascent to the new mountains and ski from unexplored slopes of Suusamyr valley. Accommodation will be arranged at ski resort. Full board at the base is included in the price. You will definitely enjoy the national cuisine, especially if you are not a vegetarian.

4th Day. Suusamyr — Bishkek

Breakfast at the base. Short skiing from the nearest mounts. Your transport will deliver the group to Bishkek. Accommodation will be arranged in the guest house of the capital or small hotel. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for group this day. Dinner should be paid by group members; it is not included in the price.

5th Day. Bishkek – Ak-Suu village – Ak-Suu yurt camp

After breakfast in the guest house we will arrange your transfer by minibus to the Ak-Suu village (travel time is about 8 hours, distance is 415 km) The final point for this day – yurt camp is located in the mountain gorge Ak-Suu at the altitude of 2700m a.s.l. The road is not appropriate for transport in winter time. You will be delivered there by snowmobiles. Accommodation in national yurts, hot sauna in the evening time and delicious local food will make your time at the camp unforgettable. You can have some rest on this day, enjoy your lunch, and after have short ski touring to the nearest slopes. Plans for the nearest days you can discuss during the dinner.

6th – 8th Day. Ski touring, exploration of new routes

It is time for skiing, exploring of new routes and new altitudes. Participants choose routes for skiing by themselves, according to the group physical training, experience and actual weather conditions. Accommodation and full board will be provided in yurt camp.

9th Day. Yurt camp – Ak-Suu village – Bishkek

Breakfast in the yurt camp. Snowmobiles will deliver the group from the yurt camp to Ak-Suu village, where prearranged bus will pick you up and deliver you to the guest house in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Rest upon arrival. You will have time for short walk around the city and enjoy something special in the local restaurants.

10th Day. Bishkek – Airport

Early breakfast. Transport will take you to the “Manas” airport for your flight.

Jergalan or Jyrgalan is a unique, amazing valley of Northern Tien-Shan, located in a heart of Terskey Ala-Too range. Thanks to the mountain range, which protects the area from strong winds coming from Issyk-Kul Lake. It collects and keeps almost full volume of abundant precipitation here (about 760 mm per year). Jergalan is one of the snowiest valleys in Kyrgyzstan. Furthermore, this valley deservedly has the title one of the best area for ski tour. Snow cover here is much better than in the most other Kyrgyz Gorges, at least because of the weather conditions. There are no lifts here, backcountry style only! Romantic!

The most appropriate place for skiing is located at the altitude from 2500 to 3400 meters above sea level. There are clean snowfields, rocky areas and forests at this altitude. Skitouring routes are very different here. The valley is proper as for experienced masters, who would like to improve their skills, as well for beginners.

Small altitudes difference, not extreme terrains allow beginners to feel comfortable on the ski route. Advanced skiers may enjoy ski tour to the virgin peaks of the valley, because some parts of Jergalan just started to explore.

Scheme of program

Program duration is 8 days, it the following stages.

1st day. Bishkek – Jergalan

Arrival at the airport in the capital of Kyrgyzstan by international flight early in the morning. Company representative will meet group participants and arrange transfer to Jergalan village, which is located five hundred kilometers far from Bishkek. Please, be ready that the distance is quite long; transfer will take about 8 hours. The group will stay in a yurt camp, where participant will receive all service necessary for comfortable accommodation. Full board of European and national cuisine is included in the programme price.

2nd-6th day. Ski-tour, new routes

This time is dedicated to explore new routes, climb new summits and improve your skills in ski touring. Participants elaborate skitouring plan according to their plans, physical training level and weather and snow conditions. Time available at this stage is enough to value and enjoy beautiful and unique landscape as well as improve skiing skills and technique. Accommodation and meals will be arranged at the Yurt camp.

7th day. Jyrgalan – Karakol – Bishkek

Long time transfer to Bishkek via Karakol town will start after breakfast, in the morning. Please be ready that the nature in this area is extremely beautiful, you will see magnificent views of the mountain scenery. The distance is about 500 kilometers; it means that transfer will take 8-9 hours on a back road and modern highway.

8th day. Way home

Transfer to international airport Manas from the capital of Kyrgyzstan will be arranged this day. Flight home.

Majestic and difficult to access, dangerous and therefore even more attractive – it is the Naryn-Too Range; it occupies about 130 km of the Inner Tien-Shan and stretches along the left shore of the Big Naryn River. Karakol River is the Eastern border of the Range. It stretchers for another 90km long from this watershed. The nameless part of this land, enclosed by the rivers Jaljyr and Ulan, is also relates to the mountain range. There are a lot of complicated routes in this area in terms of extreme sport fans.

The highest peaks in the area are about 4530 m here. The average altitude of the region is 4,200m above sea level. We would like to offer you skiing in picturesque Char gorge which is located in the southern part of the massif in the wide At-Bashi valley. Gentle slope are more common for this area. Mountain and steppe meadow landscapes with sandy and clayey parts at the foot of hills dominate here. Spruce forests grow in the gorges. Some slopes here are rocky and steep. You should be ready for such adventures.

Virgin snow, crazy views of winter Kyrgyzstan, fresh air and a lot of places to find new objects for ski touring – here are just the minimum reasons to visit this place.

Only a few expeditions visited the gorge for all the years since it was discovered. They opened new routes for exploring and left the opportunity for new discoveries which can be done by you.

Scheme of program

1st Day. Arrival to Bishkek

Early in the morning, the international class aircraft will take you to the capital airport of Kyrgyzstan. Our representative will meet the group and arrange your transfer to a three-star hotel in Bishkek. Check-in and some rest in the hotel. This day you will have time to walk around the largest city of Kyrgyzstan, see the sightseeing of Kyrgyz capital, buy food and any other things necessary for the trip, as well as taste culinary delights of national cuisine in local restaurants.

Attention! Meal in hotel does not include.

2nd Day. Bishkek – Char gorge

Quite long transfer to Char Gorge by the vehicle adapted to local road conditions will be arranged for the group. Time of driving is about eight hours; it is enough time to enjoy the country side nature and unique atmosphere of these places.

Cozy cottage which was built in 2017 here will open the doors for you in the heart of the gorge. Additional comfort from your days of your staying here will be created with warm atmosphere, pleasant interior and incredible view from the windows. Full board will be arranged for the group here, the menu will include dishes of Kyrgyz cuisine. You will certainly be satisfied with the meals, especially if you are not a vegetarian. And for sure we have what to offer for vegetarians.

3rd-8th Day. Ski tour, new routes explore

You will explore new routes for ski tour these days according to preliminary elaborated individual plan based on the level of personal skills and physical condition, as well as taking into account weather conditions. Moreover this program offers change ski location every day, visit new gorges and explores new slopes. Ski location depends on your choice. It is expected that cross-country vehicle will take the participants to chosen ski area in the morning collect the group to deliver to the cottage in afternoon. The maximum altitude of the ski area is three and half thousand meters above the sea level; difference of altitudes varies from 500m to 1000m. Team will be accommodated in cottage for all the days. Full board is included in the programme price.

Important! Participants have to have their own ski outfit.

9th Day. Char Gorge – Bishkek

The group will pack the baggage after breakfast, take lunch-boxes and take back transfer to the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The distance is about 380 km, transfer takes about 8 hours, long day trip. So, you will have enough time to discuss your experience in Char gorge.

We will arrange your accommodation in three-star hotel for the night. Breakfast will be provided in the morning before check-out. You can go out for this evening and walk along the streets of the main city of Kyrgyzstan.

10th Day. Bishkek – Airport

Breakfast will be provided early in the morning today. Participants will take short transfer to the airport after, register for flight and fly back home.

Ski touring in At-Bashi

“The Head of the Horse” – this is translation from Kyrgyz language the name of one the most attractive places for ski touring in Kyrgyz Republic. At-Bashi Valley is located in the inner part of Tien-Shan. The range with the same name is situated in the Northern part of the valley. There is also administrative center of the district bordering with China, At-Bashi village, which is placed at the foot of the range. This area is interesting for free-riders who want to explore virgin and new slopes; some of them are more than 5 thousand meters in height. This region is attractive also due to the geographical location and suitable climate conditions. It is low explored and sparsely populated. The main features of terrain are stable snow cover, rocky areas mixed with glaciers.

Climate is not stable in this region, gusty winds and heavy snowfalls are common here. The weather changes very often. December is the driest month in a year. The average annual temperature in the range is about 5-6 degrees, in winter time it come down up to – 50 Celsius degrees.

So, winter months in At-Bashi are characterized by cold and mostly cloudy weather. Snow level at the foot of mountains and in the valley is about 1-2 meters, it is about 5m up to the mountains, and sometime it can be 10m.

There are a few forests only in this area, the most of them are grown on the Northern slopes of The At-Bashi range and mainly consist of Tien Shan spruce. The Southern side of mountain range is poor of flora because the climate is unstable extremely continental.

Many of the positive reactions of tourists and sportsmen who visited At-Bashi Range confirm that this place is one of the most beautiful in Kyrgyzstan.

Scheme of program

1st Day. Arrival in Bishkek

Our representative will meet the group at «Manas» International airport upon arrival. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. Afternoon city sightseeing tour around Bishkek, you will also have time to do some shopping for the trip. You can taste national dishes of Kyrgyz cuisine in local restaurants in the evening.

2nd Day. Bishkek – At-Bashi village

We will arrange your transfer to At-Bashi village today. Please take into consideration that the trip will be long, transfer can take about 7 hours. During this trip you will enjoy with magnificent panoramas of snow-covered Kyrgyzstan. Participant will stay in guest house together with a Kyrgyz family upon arrival to At-Bashi. Group’s accommodation will be arranged at the same guest house during the program. Accommodation in family run guest house is very comfortable. Local woman will arrange full board for all group members which will include national food.

3rd -8th Day. Ski touring, new slopes

Transfer to the nearest gorge will be arranged for you every day during the whole period (transfer takes about 1 hour per one way, distance is about 50 km by mountain route). Participants will choose slopes and peaks for ascent by themselves according to the current weather conditions, participant’s experience, skills and physical training. Every day the group will stay in the guest house, enjoy a cozy atmosphere, a delicious food and long discussions of the passing day.

Attention! All team members should have their own equipment for this program.

9th Day. At-Bashi village – Bishkek

Please do not forget to take your tasty lunch-box after breakfast. Now we will arrange the group return transfer to the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The distance for this day is about 360 km. Comfortable accommodation in 3*hotel will be arranged for you in Bishkek. Some rest after long journey, and you will have time to walk around the city, try tasty food from the the menu of Kyrgyz cuisine in one of the local restaurants and buy souvenirs, which will remind you about this amazing land.

10th Day. Come home

On this day participants will have a short transfer to the airport, check-in for the morning flight and return home.

The second largest glacier system of the Central Tien Shan is located here. Ak-Shirak Range stretches at the South from Terskey Ala-Too, between the eastern side of Issyk-Kul Lake and Chinese border. The territory size is really huge, it is approximately the 60km in length and the 28 km in width.

As about relief features, the internal part of the range is almost Alpine. Glacial fields are separated with narrow rocky ridges. Passes here are quite gentle and often connected with glaciers. Peaks are diverse in exposition and height; it makes exploring and climbing ven more exciting.

The highest point of the range reaches 5,126 meters. This peak is unnamed and there is no information that it was climbed. There are four peaks of five thousand meters more in this area besides unnamed peak. The average height of the range is about 4,700 meters.

You should take into consideration the fact that frequent snow avalanches and ice slides can happen here during your skiing or climbing programme. Glaciers occupied about 50% of Ak-Shirak territory. The Petrov’s glacier is the biggest, the length is 14 kilometers. It is considered the third largest glacier on the territory of Tien-Shan in Kyrgyzstan. Big glaciers of the range are also Northern Karasai, which is 10 km in length and covers the area of 39 sq. m. The length of Kaindy(Koyandy) Glacier is approximately 8 km and coverage area is 24 square meters. There are more than 150 glaciers with the total area of about 450 square kilometers on the territory of Ak-Shirak. Most of the glaciers are located above the level of 3700 m.

The climate in Ak-Shirak Range, as well as in the most of the Central Tien Shan, is sharply continental, dry, but it is milder than somewhere else in Central Tien-Shan. The average temperature in winter time is -16 degrees Celsius, in spring and autumn it is – 7 degrees. However, it can reach of its minimum -15 or go down up to – 20 degrees.

Approach to Ak-Shirak are quite passable. To the North, West and South sides of the massif can be reached by cross-country vehicle. The itinerary starts at the capital and continue in Tamga Village and further it goes along the Barskoon gorge, through the pass. Even there you still need drive about 200-250 kilometers along the gravel road.

Ak-Shirak is the ideal place for explorers, lovers of virgin snow and pure nature. The area is excellent for those who have a spirit of adventurism, passion and desire for freedom.

Scheme of program

1st Day. Arrival

Flight of international airlines will take the members of the group to the Kyrgyz capital airport early in the morning. Representative of our company will meet them and arrange their transfer to Bishkek three stars hotel. Here participants can have some rest and check your equipments. Our company may arrange city tour on request to show you the main sights of our capital, help to purchase necessary food or other stuff for expedition and arrange tasty dinner of local cuisine.

2nd Day. Bishkek – Tamga

After the breakfast, we will arrange transfer to Tamga village. It is located on the way to Ak-Shirak Range, the area for ski-touring. This trip will take about 4-5 hours, the distance between Bishkek and Tamga is about 300 kilometers. During the transfer you can see magnificent scenery of snowy Kyrgyzstan and discuss skiing plan for nearest days. You will stay in guest house upon arrival in Tamga village, situated almost on the shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Cozy rooms, big home-cooked meal and friendly conversations will give you the warmest impressions from your staying here.

3rd Day. Tamga – Ak-Shirak

You will continue your trip to the Ak-Shirak Range today. All the group members will go to the place of base camp location today. It takes about 4-5 hours, trip to the south direction. Driving distance today is about 200-250 kilometers. Particular location of base camp will be chosen by the group upon arrival. You can relax or arrange acclimatization walking or skiing from the nearest slopes this day.

Important! All participants have to have border permit, because the ski area is located in a border zone.

The area of ski camp location is remote, that is why land transfer can be arranged by truck or cross country vehicle only.

4th-9th Day. Ski touring, new routes

The next few days are planned for acclimatization walking and ski-touring. Ski itinerary should be planned preliminary; the members of group choose routes by themselves, based on the physical conditions of group, ski experience and weather conditions. Participants should have their personal ski outfit.

Important! The North-West slopes of the Ak-Shirak Range are located on the territory of Kumtor gold mining company. This area is protected and closed for tourists. It is not expected that the programme will be arranged on this area.

10th Day. Ak-Shirak – Tamga

The group will go back to the Tamga village after breakfast in the camp. Accommodation in the village will be arranged in a family run guest house. Participants will have time to enjoy tasty dishes of national cuisine and share their impressions from the program.

11th Day. Tamga – Bishkek

After Breakfast in the guest house, we will arrange your transfer to Bishkek; accommodation is planned in three stars hotel these day. After a short rest on arrival, you can go out to purchase souvenirs and enjoy your dinner in the local restaurant.

12th Day. Departure home

Early morning you will have your breakfast before quick transfer to the airport where the airplane is ready to take you to your home country.

Best season: December – March

In ski season 2021 we offer you to explore new routes in Jergalan valley. This programme includes ski tour in the area of Jergalan Tyip and Jergalan heights yurt camps just opened for ski season 2021-2022. Ski paradise Jergalan village is located 60 km far from Karakol town. New yurt camps were set up 9 and 12 km far from the village. The programme duration can be even longer than we offer you below, but each day will be interesting and variety. You will have possibility to discovery new slopes in the area of three camps and travel between the camps through the mountain passes.

Notes

Tourists choose routes for skiing in the area by themselves according to the physical training, weather and snow conditions.

Tourists provide personal ski outfit for the expedition by themselves.

All group members must have medical insurance. We recommend coverage of USD 40 000 minimum.
