Border Permits

In accordance with the Kyrgyz law there is a special border regime in the border zones of Kyrgyzstan. Special permit is required to enter the territory and is given by the authorized organizations. Border zone area is from 10,000 m to 50,000 meters in the mountainous and sparsely populated areas. The famous Pobeda Peak(Victory Peak), Khan-Tengri and Lenin Peak, as well as some other popular mountaineering areas (Western Kokshal-Too, Torugart-Too and others) are located in border zones where access is allowed with a border permit only.

Permission is regulated by the Statute on the border regime in the frontier of the Kyrgyz Republic approved by the government decree of the KR #362 on May 15, 2004. Foreign citizens obtain entry and stay permits for BZ in the Interior Ministry and Frontier Troops of the Kyrgyz Republic. Permits for foreign citizens can be obtained also by the legal entities or private entrepreneurs, in this case tour operators.

Paper work takes 4-5 weeks, and full prepayment is required in advance. The urgent preparation of boder permits is not possible so please plan your trip well in advance and accordingly.

The following documents and information are necessary for a border permit:

  • Scanned copy of passport
  • Order form for border permit

In most cases, your border permit should be collected from our office in Bishkek (during business hours). If required delivery is available for a surcharge. Tourists who book Lenin Peak expeditions can also get their permits in Osh.  Again, please plan well in advance and accordingly.
